Our Story
With our family behind us…we are constantly moving forward.
Born out of the entrepreneurial spirit of the early 1900s, Ching Sing Wo opened a general merchandise store on North King Street in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1909.
As Hawaii grew and prospered, so did the C. S. Wo general store.
In 1942, the general store was transformed into a furniture store. At the same time, the sons of Ching Sing Wo, Bob, Jim, and Bill joined the thriving family
business and the company was renamed C. S. Wo & Sons.
For the next three decades, the business grew. The dock strike in 1949 inspired the brothers to open up the CSMF upholstery and casegoods factory. In 1954,
the brothers bought out their largest competitor, Vans Furniture, and broadened their retail operation to the neighbor islands.
In the early 1980s, the third generation joined the company. Robert Wo's sons, Bub, Wendell, Mike, Ben, and Scott brought their own ideas and
knowledge to the business. C. S. Wo & Sons, LLC. continues to offer a variety of furniture to Hawaii consumers. Currently these retailers are C. S. Wo & Sons, HomeWorld, SlumberWorld, Ashley, apt. by HomeWorld, and Red Knot. Besides offering consumers brand name furniture, bedding, and accessories from around the world,
C. S. Wo & Sons also offers complimentary professional design services.
With the growth of business, every generation has kept the tradition of supporting nonprofit organizations throughout the community. New store openings and special
in-store events customarily benefit local artists, arts, and human service institutions. Family members also offer their personal time and business expertise serving on
various community boards.
